I have 1972 Comet with 200 I6. I am still confused if I have a YF or YFA Carter carb. Carb number is 7136S. I am trying to find a rebuild kit.
I Googled 7136S and came up with this https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-CARTER...1970-1974-FORD-TRUCK-240-ENGINE-/400981587738
Looks to be a regular Carter YF which would be the correct carb for your car and year. I'm not sure about that number though. My chart doesn't show that. Is the tag on the carb yet? If so it can tell you if that is the carb the car was born with or if someone swapped it out over the years. Rebuild kit I use for these is a Walker 15447B
RThomas: That is what I kept coming up with but while digging further I got more confused. Acorn: No tag on the carb. I supposed it could have been swapped. There is only 59000 miles on it, been sitting for 12 years in a garage and I am the second owner(per see). Everything looks original but again who knows. Would it being a California car make a difference? During my research I found this video from Mike's Carburetor leads me to believe i is a YFA, but.....
Ok after further research, and I found my 1973 shop manual that was packed away, I think Acorn is correct. It is a Carter YF. I think the video is wrong or maybe YFA is similar but came out in the later years. I found this: http://www.carburetion.com/CarbID/CarterID.htm that suggests I have a YF too. I know not to trust everything google tells me and this case I think I just overly searched for an answer. I also read YFA didn't come out until the late 70's.
I know that I might not be 100% correct on this belief - but didn't the YFA series have electric chokes? I'd bet a Winchell's dozen that is a YF you have there ..........
