Need help from the Maverick experts out there!
I'm looking at door interchange for 2 door mavericks. The Hollander interchange says 70 to 71 and 72 to 77. My question is what is the difference in the early one and can the 72 to 77 doors be used on the 70 to 71 cars.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    Hmmm

As far as I know there is absolutely no difference in the door from
'70-'77 whether it is Maverick or Comet. The interior door handle and armrest changed in '73 and stayed the same from there on out. Before '73 I would say that the armrest and handle were integrated while they separated in '73 to look like 80's Mustangs with the tiny L-shaped door latch release.
The door itself was always the same shape and size. I doubt that the hinges ever moved if there was no design change in the shape. Maybe the reinforcement of the interior changed due to federal guidelines.

Sounds like a Selvey question to me.

    You're on Craig!

Littleredtoy is correct on all that. Another thing that changed was in 73 (I think; maybe late 72) Ford started putting Steel Guard Rails inside the doors to make them stronger for side impacts. All year doors are interchangeable, and the hinges are in the same spots. The only difference are the door handle locations and the steel guard rails. Hope this helps.

One difference I have found is that some doors have a textured finish on the exposed metal areas and some did'nt. I have a pair of doors in my basement from an early Maverick that are like that, yet the doors from my 77' and 76' Mavericks both have a smooth finish. Other than that, they will fit all years.

I bought a rust free set of doors for my 73 GT back in 1985. They were from a 72 GT. I never noticed the door handle difference until last year! If you look at the earlier doors, the indentation is there where the later opener will go. If you cut it out to match the 73+ doors, it should work, using the later hardware. By good luck, I found another rust-free set so if anyone needs 72 +older dorrs, I got 2!
