So I finally got a pair of 8" wide rims so I can get rid of the giant useless N50/15s I have on the back of my mav.
What I wonder is with a stock rear end and an 8" wide rim with
4 1/4" backspacing, what size tire should I be able to fit.
Unfortunately, I don't have a bunch laying around to try out.
If anyone is running this size wheel and cutting it really close on tire clearance, please tell me what you're running.

Here's the look I'm trying to get away from.
    hehe

    Thanks,

A good over-all tire size would a 245-60-r14 it would fit on the wheel nicely and fill the fenders out without out rubbing. I have that size and still have a set that I stick on the car I am working on to give me alittle boost when progress slows done.

    I left out some info...

    Sorry, I forgot to mention.
    These are 15" rims.
    Thanks,

I have 255-60-r15 on the car I have pictured and they do not rub same back spacing you had mentioned in your previous thread. John

    Thanks John.

How much clearance do you have from the inside of the sidewall to the spring?
And from the outside to the fender?
Is there plenty of room when the suspension is compressed?
    Thanks Again.

On my Sprint, I have 255r60X15 on 8" rims with 4 1/2" back spacing. I tried them on my stock 77 and the tires barely touched the springs, but they were touching. So when I had my 9" made I had another 3/8" added to the width on each side. I guess it depends on the tire since Chandler has this combination and it works. If yours touches, you could get a small spacer to put behind the wheel.

I also have 255x50x15's with a 4.5 back spacing (my street tires)but I've never had them hit the springs, but they are real close maybe within a 1/2 inch. I think it's depends on the tire and wheel manufacturer and which combo you use.

courier11sec was the n50 you were using Micky Thompson's because I had a set when I was 18 on the back of my 66 Fairlane and man would they dead hook up for a street tire. Of course radials had just then been invented and no one really had any idea of what they could do.

    Hope this helps

Maverick Man that’s one beautiful old Maverick, I love the tire wheel combo you've used. MAN I don't think I've ever seen a better-looking setup. I hope I haven’t offended anyone but that's one sharp combo.
    Just my 2 cents.

P.S. Yes it's raining again and I'm playing post catchup.

These N50s are old Pos-A-Traction Torque Twisters.
They do get quite sticky when you heat them up.
Took this picture a while back and they were nice and gooey afterward.
They have been in storage for a number of years and I bought them from a guy a while back I think for $60.00 for the pair.
I'm not sure they had ever been run before, they don't look like they had.
The reason it won't hook though isn't the tires, it's the fact that I basically had to defeat my rear suspension to keep the fenders from coming down on them.
They stick out a few inches and I'm maxed on backspacing
    (4 1/2").
The reason I'm going to a narrower wheel is to get everything tucked inside the fenders so I can start using the suspension again.

265/50-15's on the turbo maverick. They fit well w/ 3.5" backspace...but they did rub one time when I had 2 buddies in the back seat. Good luck
