I just switched from a 3 speed on the column to a C-4 Auto. I pulled the pedals to eliminate the extra clutch pedal, replaced with a auto set. I gutted the column of the shifter rods, installed a B & M floor shifter. Pulled the starter to install a Clifford header. It's a 250 I-6. Reinstalled the starter. Pulled the whole dash out because I had rusted out cowls. Replaced the cowl panels, reinstalled the dash and column, now I have no power what so ever. The only thing I get is a D/S brake light stuck on. No starting, no wipers, H/Ls, blower motor, nothing. Any suggestions where to start and what direction to head in? Thanks for the help! Mike
From all the steps you have taken, the likely culprit would be something behind the dash. you might have to pull it again and make sure you reconnected everything. Did you mess with the wires on thestarter solenoid? I had those wires crossed once by a dumb mechanic, and the car went dead on me.
The on/off/ignition switch is mounted on the top middle of the column. Make sure that little rod that runs from the column key switch is still attached and actually moving the switch. Second place I'd check is the firewall connector. Make sure the 2 halves are seated down all the way. Do the lights work?
No lights, just a break light stuck on. I'll check the ignition rod, and check the main connector. I didn't pull that apart when I pulled the dash. I kept it in tact. Just pulled the dash and heater box, to get in and glue in some new cowl panels. thanks.
On a job like this It could be anything. Some places to check. The brake light switch is operated by the brake arm, is it there and adjusted correctly. Has the neutral saftey switch circuit been hooked up to work? It may have been in different locations for each setup.
hey steve!!! this was about 10 years ago, and I was a dumb kid. My mom had given up on the maverick, and in order for me to save it, I had to do something, so I sold my running dodge dart for $$$ to get a used engine for the mav. I knew nothing about cars at that point. Hey it was a mechanic or the junkyard. I took the only choice I had, and I still have that little car. I know better now, and if I can't do it, then I learn it!
mechanic?! thats ok,i was just joking! buy the way,i'm an ase certified mechanic. and i'm glad you still have that little car! good thing you got rid of the mopar(don't go far!) steve
