I have a 72 Maverick, originally with a 6 cylinder, auto on the column. I have put in a Hurst Quarter Stick and I'm having trouble hooking up the neutral safety switch. Does anyone know which dash wire to splice into. I have a few electrical diagrams but can't seem to figure out which wire I should use. Any help would be great.

    well

on the bottom of the steering column is a half moon safty switch like the one you bought to go on the tansmission. I think the colored wires are in the same order....really I cant remember. I could go check if you still need to know. what I do know is the one I got has diffrently colored wires. I managed to get it to work some how.

    i just checked

ok the geen and purple wire are not used. You just have to figure out which red/blue wire goes to which other red/blue wire. 50/50 chance. The white/purple to white/purple, black/pink to black/pink and so on I couldn't fit under the car to trace the wires and it's dark out....I really wan't to help because when I went through this it seemed help was hard to come by. Good luck, JC

Just run the wires straight to the starter silenoid? If the shifter is in park it will complete the circuit, if its not in "park" the circuit will be broken. Of course I am assuming that your shifter as the little micro switch that mounts on the shifter housing. If I am wrong I apologize for mis-info.

maverick5946, I do have the microswitch on the shifter. If I do not disturb the factory harness, the column will indicate the car is in park and I can start in any gear. I would like to know which wire I need to interupt with the "new" neutral safety switch, e.g. the red w/light blue tracer? red w/light green tracer etc.. I did try to splice into the red w/lt blue tracer, it didn't seem to work. Again, any help would be great. thanks.

i have a b&m mega shifter on my 71. the directions say to remove the safety switch from the stock shifter. there were 4 wires on mine with 2 going through the center of the firewall. these were for the back-up lights. the 2 others, one was purple and the other was black with a purple tracer, went in to a wiring harness. these were for the neutral safety switch. these all went to my shifter to a neutral safety switch and a back up light switch inside the shifter. you can tell which wires are for the neutral safety switch with a voltage meter. you'll get a 12 volt reading when you turn the ignition switch on. hope this helps.
