I am completely competent that I "could" do it myself, but I am looking for less stress in my life...would it be easier to just hire it out? Or is it such a simple job that I would be upset paying someone else to do it. I also do NOT like working with my arms over my head for any period of time.
I cant work overhead like that anymore either. I have done them in the past but next time I would pay for the install. They arent complicated to do just awkward.
Really guys??? I think I have installed six over the years and find them so simple to do. The most recent just two months ago. I think the whole project took 90 minutes start to finish. If you can get someone to do it for $50 then fine. Any more than that and you are throwing money out the window. I am not a big fan of the over head thing either. But I assemble it on the ground. Mount the front over the door. Then swing the motor up onto my ladder. Climb the ladder, swing it up the foot it needs to go and then slide the bolts into the brackets to hold it in place. It really is easy.
Has anyone seen the new ones, that have the rod on the side?? One of my customers just had one installed, it's pretty neat.
I want one that is quiet. The best quietest one I have seen was belt driven. Never installed one that wasn't a noisy chain drive.
They are easy to install. In my toy garage I will install a Jack Shaft opener like Dave mentioned next time.
