Hi gang......I have a new carter 1 barrel for my 71. I got the electric choke on it, and am not clear on running a wire from and size fuse. Any help for a dummy?

Book says: "The choke is powered by the center tap of the alternator, so that current is constantly applied to the temperature sensing disk."

Diagram describes the center tap as being the one with a black ring. It does not indicate a fuse in the line.

I can't help you much on the fuse size other than to say, if you did use one, I would install it as close to the alternator as possible. I think the thing wouldn't draw much power, maybe a 1/4 amp?

I've never seen a fuse in the OEM alternator feed type, don't think it's necessary... If a fuse were used I'd install at least a five amp...

For the aftermarket carbs that choke connects to 12v, ones I've measured draw around 1.25 amp... In my Comet I have a 10A in that circuit...

Out of curiosity where did you get the new Carter 1 barrel carb at and how much did it cost?

My dad has a Carter carb on his '70 Maverick and has rebuilt it one time but it still has an off idle stumble to it.
