My "new" 77 Mav came with the original am radio unit withe dashboard speaker (working.)
This weekend I installed a new JVC head unit, Kenwood 5 & 1/4 inch speakers in the kick panels and, Punch 6x9 inch speakers in the back.

    Mods I made:
Head unit - I used my Dremmel tool (thanks for the tip) to cut the plastic factory radio holder unit to size.

Front speakers - On the passenger side I cut the bottom "rear" door bolt (2 door car) off by about 1/2 inch and bent the "J" (for lack of a better term) support from the door (near that bolt I cut) flat.
Drivers side took no mods but, was a tight fit due to the parking brake (read -> slow and easy.) Then I used a utility knife to cut the plastic kick panel openings to match the speaker placement.

Rear speakers- No mods required other than cutting the deck panel to accept the speakers.

Thanks to all of you who contributed to the audiio forum for making this a much easier job...

    Matt

    Took some pics

Sorry it took so long to post the pics. It has been too hot to get out there and remove kick panel to show what I did.

    My shorthand is this

bkspkr = speaker installed in the rear deck. Straight forward cut the panel and install.

dash = a shot of the head unit.

flspkrcvr = a shot of the front drivers side kick panel. Only had to cut a hole in the panel to accomodate the speaker grill/cover.

frspkrcvr = passanger side kick panel removed shows that I installed the grill/covers to the kick panel not the speaker. If I had the kick panel would have drawn in too far.

rfspkr = this shows where I cut the one bolt off by about 1/2 inch and bent the bracket forward to accomodate the speaker on the front passenger side,
