I am giving serious consideration to having a shop built behind my house and want to weigh all of my options. Does anyone have any experience with or know someone who has a "pre-engineered" metal garage/workshop? Are these truly cheaper to erect than having a frame or block building erected? Are they durable or junk?

Are there other options for me to consider?

Thanks in advance for any input you are able to provide.

Pole Barn? They are pretty reasonable to put up.

A couple of friends of mine have those buildings that look like accordians. Personelly I dont care for them for several reasons. The non vertical and zig zagging walls on the side make it hard to put shelving up and in my opinion, loose valuable space. Also being in the low 30's up here, not too good at retaining heat. But they both said they are fairly easy to put up. Just pour a slab and start bolting them together.

Since its basically an egg shaped half circle, snow has a hard time sticking to it. Plus being metal, whenever the sun comes out what little snow is there, quickly slides off. Due to the cunstruction, I'd say its probably the strongest design you could find in a prefab type building.
