FE 's are hard to tell forshure without taking the bore/ stroke. There is a date code above the starter. Some later blocks have a partial VIN stamped above the bellhousing, don't know if it includes the 5th digit engine code.

But I DO know that if it has "SUPER" stamped on a machined pad on the bottom of the block, its JUNK, and should be sent dierctly to me for propper disposal (y)

Probably wont know for sure unless you check stroke or drop the oil pan and check the stamp. It really dosnt matter as everything is interchangable and both seem underpowered with a 2 barrel carb to me.

Here's an easy way to tell. Take out any spark plug that is easy to get to. You will need a friend to help. Get a small rod ( a 22cal cleaning rod works great ). Have your friend turn the engine while you hold the rod parallel to the piston through the plug hole. when it gets all the way to the bottom have him stop and you make a mark to some reference on the head. Turn the engine until the rod is at the top of the stroke and measure the length from the same reference point. A 360 will be 3½" and the 390 will be 3¾"!:)
