Another car that I have to dig in order to get to. This one was covered in blankets, then boxes on top of that! We got it dug out enough to take pics, sorta... We didn't move all the furniture from in front of it, but enough to get the idea. The stuff on the side, near bare paint, looks like it is touching... However we go through great pains to make sure that no matter how close the stuff gets, it never actually touches. The car has a fairly nice pearl paint. The pics don't do the swirls of blue, purple, and red any justice. Wouldn't have been my choice of paint, but oh well. I remember riding in this car from the dealership in 78. Fox Chevrolet in Baltimore MD. HOT August day, no A/C... and black interior to boot! If you think a plug change on a Maverick is bad, I got news for ya... It isn't. There are several GMs, including this one, that got it beat for difficulty.
Cheverolets fix is to take a 1 1/4" hole saw and cut a hole in the inner fender so that the spark plug is accessible utilizing a long extension and spark plug socket. Then to fill the 8 holes you cut they provide(sell) a kit that has 8, 1,1/4" body plugs in it... By the way that is one of the few Chevys I would own that and a 72 vega wagon
in '77 i ordered a new... black, auto.PS,PB, A/C, RPS... didn't keep it long enought to have to change the plugs... it was sweet for it's time ...
It's not going anywhere. It is in an unused building and is not eating anything. There it will sit until such time as I can ever afford to do anything with it. Maybe I'll let my grandchildren worry about it... and with any luck, that's a LONG way off.
Yes sir! I like to think I helped Dad put the first set of headers in back in 79, but I was just old enough to get in the way. After that, they came out about every 10 years for service, and I can say that the torch was passed and Dad got to watch me do the headers. Headers and starter are a nightmare on these cars. On a side note... The B&M shifter was a Megashifter that was in my 75 Mav when I bought it. I converted to a 4 speed... and about that time, Dad lost the use of his clutch leg, so he swapped the 4 speed out for a TH350 air cooled. He borrowed my left over Megashifter for a temporary fix, until he could get the proper stock stuff. However he became more and more handicapped, and eventually invalid, so the car kinda just became frozen in time.
Ya know, I drove the car back and forth to school during my senior year, so yea, plenty of memories there, as well as with Dad. Looking back, I can't believe he trusted a 16 yo with his baby. He was stationed out of country that year. So he gave me a cool little car, and took away my supervision!
There used to be a orange/brown monza car just sitting around here for a few years. It's not there anymore, but I wish I would have tried to buy it. Someone had turned it into a racecar from the looks of it. Stickers on it and 2 holes in the front fenders for the exhaust to come out. The looks of those cars has really grown on me the last 5 years
