I do'nt have the rear speakers in my Mav, I have original Philco radio. My question is what is max output from this radio, so I can find the speakers. Thanks!
I DO NOT KNOW. That being said, I would guess that it's gonna be like 10-15 watts MAX. Like I said, I don't know for sure......but I figure that this is close. Somebody else may be able to help you out with the exact numbers! Sorry I couldn't really help other than that! Take care, and good luck!! Preston
rear speakers the factory openings in my 71 2dr rear deck is for 2 6x9 speakers. if ya plan on running these off of the original deck, just buy whatever. (other than junk like roadmaster/kraco/ect) I am partial to alpine/kenwood my self. I think the guess of 15 watts/channel of the original radio is probably the right ballpark. given that assumtion, any new 6x9 will comfortably handle whatever power the original deck will throw at it. i would look for a speaker with a NON-Paper cone, just in case of waterleak issues. i've destroyed the cones on many speakers due to water damage from leaking windows. my rear window leaks much water AND i have many hundred dollars worth of gear in the trunk, but i don't worry due to having taken the proper precautions. just my opinion, any other questions.
like he ^ said it dont take much to run wire and drop in the two 6x9s.... just need someone to fit in the truck to hook em up .... But have you considered building a stero box to fit with the hump in the front ? This fixs it so when u wanna show your car with the stock radio , un do the wires and pull the new one out with no problem .....
Is your radio an AM/FM stereo or just an AM. My guess beings you dont have rear speakers in there already I assume AM with about 5-10watts. The factory AM radio was meant to drive a single speaker. Speakers have a specific electical resistance measured in ohms. If the speaker has the wrong reistance (impedance) it may damage the output of the radio. Two speakers wired in parallel off of one lead will yield a 2 ohm load and is hard on a simple amplifier to run. Not recommended unless you wired the two speakers in series which will create an 8ohm load which is a higher resistance and should be a safe combination. If the radio is a stereo unit that has more than one output and you put only one speaker on each then you will be fine, assuming the speakers are of standard 4ohm variety. Avoid speakers that use external crossover networks when wiring into an older factory radio because some radios do not like the complex loads they place on the amplifiers.
The car have stereo AM/FM radio, and 4 speakers, but someboby "steel" the rear speakers, the two paires wires still in the trunk , even four attatching bolts are ready for the speakers. And do you nou wat's fun, the radio are speaking estonian now Thanks for the comments!
According to my Ford radio repair guides the AM had 2 watts output and the AM/FM stereos both with and without 8 track put out an outstanding 6 watts per channel! Yee Haw!! Boy, they were really working those push-pull transistor output circuits pretty hard, weren't they?
