I'm nearing the time to install the wiring harness from my 1990 Mustang 5.0 into the Maverick.

The EEC IV is for the AOD tranny - I'm using a C4.

    I called Painless Wiring for a swap-out harness - $488.00

Did any of you guys go this route or did you simply modify an existing harness?

    Any hints/comments/suggestions/photos would be appreciated.

If anyone has a schematic I could go by, I'd appreciate a copy of it very much!

Thanks in advance Guys - all I want is everything! ;)

Rick, If your not very familuar with fuel injection, I would reccomend you get a harness.
I did my retrofit to a 302, 7 years ago before there was aftermarket wiring, by custom changes and pulling out what was not needed.
I have all the info in my library but is difficult to handle on this basis.
You need to configure a relay that is operated from the ignition switch to power the ECM for starting and running as well as a seperate power connection to keep the ECM alive when the engine is not running. Then there is the fuel pump feed and ECM controlled relay to run it.
The C4 kick down you didn't mention, that can be done also. You will need to fab a special double acting lever at the trans unless some one markets somthing.
My car is in winter storage at another location so I can't get a digital photo very quickly, of the kick down lever if you would want to see.

I could help on a limited basis, with parts of the ciircuit at a time.

The discrepancy in aftermarket harness prices is this:

The Painless wiring harness is complete with everything you will need to do the installation and get the car running. This cost is about $460.

The other harness quoted at $288 is the Ford Motorsport main harness. While this sounds like the better deal, it is not. This harness is just for the Computer to the engine/sensor harness. Now you may think that you can just plug into the existing engine harness you got with the motor. Not so. You either must use the Ford Motorsport engine harness or you must rewire the harness to put the wires into the correct locations to make it all work. The Ford harness is about another $170. Then you need the sensors and relays described above. About another $90 depending on where you buy them.

    See where this is going?

Hope this information has been at least a little helpful. BTW, best prices I have found for either harness have been from Summit. If you don't have a catalog, get one. This is an excellent resource to learn what current jobber pricing is for just about any mainstream part.
