Well I had my car on a lift today and since I've seen questions about running 2 1/2" pipe, I thought I'd take some pics and show mine off. I good friend of mine is a whiz w/ exhaust and very meticulous about getting things exactly right. Here are 2 low res pics, I've linked the 1600x1200 big ones. www.mindspring.com/~imaslacker/cometpictures/exhaust/P1010003.JPG www.mindspring.com/~imaslacker/cometpictures/exhaust/P1010004.JPG
Why If you're wondering what all the bends at the end are for, well I didn't want to buy same side in and out mufflers, $180 apiece, but I wanted side exit to compliment my sidepipes. Ended up getting mandrel bends from jc whitney and did a little bending instead.
I like that setup. I am trying to decide between what you have done and just dumping from the muffler. Still thinking about getting the flowmaster 40 series original flows. Which ones do you have on that setup? Would using larger diameter pipe after the muffler compensate for any resistance from all those bends? How are the ends of the pipes secured to the car? different angle pics? sorry so many questions, just never seen it done like that and want to avoid going over the axle to the back. Getting ready to drop my engine back in (finally with headers) and off to the exhaust shop. Mike
hangers Well after that pic was taken, I drove the car for a while and then added additional hangers right in the U part of the bend. This got rid of any vibration and they are firmly in place now. As for the pipe size, these are 2 1/2" and since all the bends are mandrel I didn't think it would cause any backpressure. In any case, with the mild motor I have built, there isn't any need for more thant 2 1/4" pipe anyway. These are 40s flows and I also considered skipping the muffler and just running straight exhaust along the sidepipe. I decided I prefered the sound of flows and went with that. I don't have access to a rack so those are the only pics I have. Good luck.
