Pictures of My Maverick. After purchase and now.... Hi all. I have been on this (and the old board) for quite a while, and I haven't shown anyone my Mav yet. Right now it is not much to look at, but it will get there. The first picture is when I first got it and it looked pretty good, but of course I had to change some stuff. First it was the bumpers to the smaller ones. So I got new fenders, and everything related to that. Then I decided it would look really good as a Grabber. So I got my hood($40 by the way) and spoiler. I didn't want my trim or vinyl top anymore, so I stripped thoses off. After I sanded the paint off BY HAND I realized that the doors were not original. It doesn't bother me, but then I realized that everything on the car except the body and interior were from different cars, because I had changed all the removable panels! Pretty funny, but it brings out more character, don't you think? Anyway, the second picture is a while ago, when it wasn't running, and we had to move it around. Pretty soon it will go off to the body shop, and after that is done I will post another picture. Let me know what you think. For those of you who don't know about by car, look under my name for a little more info. I am looking forward for your comments. Ask all the questions you want. This thing will look like a Grabber when I am done, except for the tan, buckets interior. This has been a lot of fun for me. Oh yeah, in the second picture, it's not attached to the gas tank or anything like that, it's hooked to the rear end! Looks weird though! Let me know your thoughts. -Corbin P.S. The front looks so high in the second picture because it hadn't had a chance to settle yet from being in the air so long, while I put on the power discs.
I have a '73 also. I want to change the front and rear bumpers to the 70-72 smaller ones. What all did you have to get from an earlier Mav. You said something about changing the fenders, is this true? Thanks Your car looks like its going through a lot of changes. Be sure to post again when its all pretty looking.
Megawes... No you don't have to change fenders, you can cut a notch out of your fenders in order to fit the small bumpers. The 73 don't have it. I got the 71 fenders for free, so I used those. Attached are pics of the notch in the fenders I am talking about. Others on the board are more experienced on the subject of actually cutting out the notches. I am sure they can help you on the process, if that is what you wish to do. Hope it helps. -Corbin P.S. You also have to get the front bumper, brackets, valence (different from 73), stone guard, hood latch/stone guard holding bracket(the one running vertically, between the radiator and the grill, bumper, etc.. The back you need the bumper, brackets, and you need to remove the 73 lower bumper filler panels. Plastic/vinyl things between the sides of the bumper and the lower quarters.
Looks like we have the same story, sort of. My car started as a 73 Ldo also. And now every removable body panel has been replaced because it was bent or just to lose the chrome strip holes. And I also removed the vinyl top. But unlike you I stayed with the 73 bumpers and 73 Grabber stripes. I mainly kept the 73 bumpers because I liked the 73 Grabber stripe scheme and wanted it to look year correct, except of course my 70 grill. We also have the same scoop of you decide to keep the one from when it was yellow.
Funny looks like my car when... Heh funny, your car looks like mine when they shot it for the HOT ROD cover when they changed it yellow. Anyways I kept the 73 bumpers on both my cars as well, but i'm in the process of taking off all the LDO Trim (heh after bought the trim from Craig) and repainting the roof of the car. But other wise it looks good. Nice scoop (hum i wonder why ; )
Thanks Corbin, That helps a bunch. Now if I can just find an early car for a few hundred bucks that I can strip. I swear ever since I got this car I've been going nuts. I love these cars. I've had a '67 mustang, a '65 Falcon, '56 Ford Panel Truck, '66 Tempest, '79 Bronco, and a few rice burners and rice rockets and a '97 S-10, but nothing compares to the Maverick. I want more of them. I must say that I always thought these cars were ugly and crappy until I saw Maverick Man's car on T.V. I knew then what my next project was! Thanks for the bug man!! Wes
