Ok, I know it is not a maverick, but on my wifes 1966 ranchero, she has points & cond. still. The coil was in dire need, so I swaped it for a msd blaster 2. When I read the instruction it talks about a "resistor balance". Is any one else familiar with this? Do I actually need to install one?, It does not have it, I saw they are cheap, any ideas???

If the car still has its original wire harness, it will have a resistor wire in the ignition circuit. This will allow you to use the coil without a ballast resistor. If the harness has been modded or replaced with an aftermarket set up all bets are off. The ballast resistor is to step down the constant voltage to the coil so it wont get cooked.

Yes, the wire harness is complete, original, but did they all have the resister wire? what do I look for? it is a staight run from the conector plug to the coil about a foot away.

The Ballast resistor is need to keep from burning up the points.
The stock coil has the resistor build in. You can still buy a points
    coil at a parts store.
