I am always trying to learn here. I read a lot of people using something called POR 15, what is it? Where does one buy it and for what? I am pulling the carpet and replacing it soon (after I get my flywheel/starter problem fiqured out) and was wondering if this is something I want to look into. My father is the original owner of my '70 (I still have the window sticker!)and I have had it since 1982 so I know the damage history-ZERO Also, no rust anywhere on the car.(California is good for something!) Can someone enlighten me please? Scott

POR 15 is a rust encapsulator. It dries very hard like an epoxy and helps to strenghten the metal it's painted on. It does work and is very popular with serious restorers. The recommended process for application is to clean the metal as best as possible especially from loose rust. The POR 15 is just painted on the metal. I've never sprayed it on, but you are supposed to be able to do that. The manufacturer recommends a metal prep, but you don't have to use their own brand. There are several colors available now as well as semi gloss black for chassis applications. It prevents the rust present from spreading. I believe it is because it seals it from oxygen and moisture permanently. It dries so hard, it is difficult to sand so you have to put it on carefully and make sure it only goes where you want it. I found out by experience it is difficult to remove from your hands after it dries so wear gloves. Eastwood makes a similar product, but I've heard it is nowhere as good.

I should have read your post more carefully. Where there is no rust, it can be used to prevent rust. It lasts.

Great, thanks. No rust anywhere but I was wondering if it might add some sound insulation as well. I am REALLY regretting the Flowmaster 40 series!! WHAT? SPEAK UP, I CAN"T HEAR YOU!!! Oh well, at least noone doubts what is under the hood :) Scott

No problem with the sound insulation. The POR 15 will protect the floorboards and the insulation will protect your ears.
