Friend of mines has a Ford Falcon and would like to know what he should look for when it comes to a Ford 289 engine. He wants to go with this engine since for some reason, the name of it appeals to him. He tells me it just sounds cool.

But anyway, what should he look for when trying to locate one and what kind of HP can he expect from these motors. Any upgrade suggestions?

Tanks for any replies guys! Cheers!

First upgrade I can think of is a 302.:D Actually the 289 is a great engine. Only problem is they are getting harder to find and more expensive. The 302 or later 5.0 is more plentiful and looks the same.:)

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Tell him to get a 302 And just get 289 emblems. No one is going to take it apart to measure the stroke. But if he insists on it. Starting in 66 they got hi flow heads. Also some are 5 bolt which makes tranny swaps difficult.

I heard that...when i did my "302" swap and someone asked..."what motor you got?"... I would tell them a...302...the next question would be..."is it a BOSS?"
then I started telling them it's a..."Mustang 5.0 roller motor"...to that they would reply..."Man I bet that thing will fly"...
    all in the ...presentation...:yup:

the 289 was the hot motor for the Falcon like the BOSS 302 is to the Maverick...

A "289" is all in the stroke of the crank, witch will fit in a 5.0 roller block. or most any 302 block for that mater.
