Power Brake Master Cylinder Alternative

    In the process of switching to power disc brakes, thankx to all those who contributed to the existing discussions, big help. I'm looking for a smaller alternative to the OEM P/B master cylinder. With all the small cars out there these days, I'm hoping someone has figured out how to adapt a small M/C setup to avoid the HUGE OEM unit and the monstrosity shock tower brace that accompanies it. :hmmm:

    My manual drums work pretty good, but the shoes keep cracking, damn kid drives too fast (not me):drive:

    Can I switch to disc brakes and stay with the manual M/C? Front is a given, but how about all 4 wheels? Pros/cons, or no way?

    I've considered a hole in the floor Fred Flintstone style, but I keep going thru sneakers:)

    On my last mav I used a 7 inch booster from ebay, with a granada M/C. It all cleared the tower braces and shock tower just fine. My latest mav has a 7 inch booster with a 89 Ranger M/C and it clears everything great and looks super cool. havent driven the car and wont for some time, but I am sure it will work super. I am also certain that the 8 inch booster from ebay will fit also. I am running the single diaphram unit as I dont think there is room for the double diaphram unit.     I think there is a Geo that has a real small booster which is a popular swap. The only downfall I believe is the Geo master only has one reservoir. I think this setup is most popular with the falcon crowd.

    What I have learned is the OEM Maverick power brake booster and M/C mount on the firewall in pretty much the same place as the manual M/C (once you make the 4 new holes), but the rod that connects the pedal is offset to the driver's side significantly, as a result the stock manual brake pedal doesn't work if you are installing an OEM setup, you have to get a pedal from a donor P/B car. If this setup as 55 is suggesting has a centered rod going through the firewall, it can be assumed because the OEM manula M/C has a centered rod, the OEM manual brake pedal will work, you just have to fabricate a connecting rod from the booster to the pedal.

    Does that sound right? Am I missing anything?

    looking into this as I hate the xcross brace,,did you make the pushround or buy an adjustable one,,i like using the stock drum brake pedal setup then adding the 7 brake booster, keeps everthing looking nice and tight,,the m/c needs to be changed to disk and everything else but as a whole would look much better

    Here is the pushrod I made........... I cut the stock one then welded it to a threaded nut(from ACE)it is now adjustable. In the bottom pic, you can see the location of the lower nuts of the booster.
