I am finally biting the bullet and swapping the factory 250 for a crate 302 in my 71 Comet.

While I have the engine out, I am doing the usual clean up and repairs of the engine bay while it is convenient. One of the items on the list are the power steering hoses, which have been leaking like mad. I found that Rock Auto seems to carry all the hoses I need that match what is there for the 250, but when I checked what they carry for the 302 to make sure they match, I noticed that they list a different hose design for the pressure hose. In fact, it seems on a 302 there is a pump end and control valve end pressure hose.

My questions are: Do I need to swap over to the 302 hoses or will the 250 hose work fine? If I need to use the 302 hoses, do I need a control valve (I don't think the 250 has one)?

    Thanks!

The control valve is on steering linkage and leaks like a sieve if never serviced/rebuilt. Has pressure, return & two short intermediate hoses that connect to power assist cylinder. All intermediate & compact Ford's of era have similar/same.

The V8 Mav/Comet use a two piece pressure hose assembly that basically couple together in center of run. I suspect aided assembly line, as likely the hoses were already installed on pump and control valve.

Hoses on my '72 are coupled together at hose support bracket, guessing the bracket may not be on a 6cyl.

I have the v8 power steering hose bracket that attaches to the frame mount if you need it. I also have pretty much all the mounts you will need for the V8 swap if you don’t already have them.

Sure, what do you have, or more accurately, what do I need that I might not know about? I was going to pickup the motor and frame mounts from Melvin's. They look like they are about $230, but if you have a good set, let me know.

Good to know, I guess I will convert it over to the 302 setup since I am guessing that gives more length for routing around the motor.
