Just spitballing here. My quarters are pretty solid aside from the little holes right behind the rear wheels. Mustangs, etc. have patch panels that are pretty cheap and appear to have a similar shape at the lower front corner/wheel opening. Are they close enough to take about a 3X5 in. chunk out at that corner and weld it in? If it was in a nice flat area I wouldn't even bother, but the curves down at the corner would be a challenge for me to reproduce. Obviously the panels themselves are not a match. I did a very quick forum search so, if it's already been discussed I can keep looking.
Check out Maverick / Comet Restoration on f/b, Joe and his crew makes that piece for Mavericks/Comets. Chuck
Thank you, Chuck! Yep. I saw that thread on here yesterday and signed up. Just waiting to be accepted. I appreciate your response.
If that's the extent of your rust, you have a fantastic car for Iowa. I grew up at the opposite end of US 34 and lived in Des Moines for many years. Good to see another Iowegian here, even though I'm in Virginia and south of the salt line now.
None of the Mustang pieces are close.....I looked/touched/felt/sized them up myself. Pretty simple patch to make or have made, especially if it is as small as it looks. Cut out as little as possible when you do.
curved panels can be a challenge but even without exact panel, if you start with a similar shape patch it can be done fairly simply... Comet with Falcon lips and fender parts : . . . , . . . . . hav e fun
That's pretty much it. Maybe a little on the inside lower door seam. It was a pretty lucky find near Wapello. Lots of rock chips as the previous owner lived on a gravel road, but I can drive it anywhere. I've some friends in and from Creston, Ia. Lot of Jeep and car guys in that area.
Wow! Great work! I did a wheel arch on my old Cougar with a piece of cardboard for a template. Not the extent of your work with the bends included. Impressive.
