This question is pretty trivial by now, but I'm curious. Did all V-8 Mavericks/Comets come from the factory with a fan shroud? When my Maverick was purchased from the original owner in 1981, it did not have a fan shroud. I drove it like that for years and eventually found a shroud for it (brought the temps down by approximately 8 degrees) sometime in the late '80s. I'm just wondering why the shroud was missing. Was this typical?...
I cannot speak as to the question, but I know a large number of early Mustangs did not still have the shrouds after a decade or so. My personnel experience was that almost every time the hood was open one of my dim wit friends would lean on the shroud and break it. I replaced 2 or 3 before saying forget it.
I have one for my 70 but it was also converted from a six cylinder to a V-8. I'm not sure if the shroud is from the six though. Pretty sure it is.
I suspect they did... Looking in Master Parts, 6cyl only lists shroud with A/C, while 302 listing are for A/C or non-A/C(two different shrouds).
Mine was missing as well on my V-8 equipped Maverick and I purchase a used one ( from Dyent, actually). It fit like a glove.
Both of my Comets (71 non-air and 72 A/C cars) came with fan shrouds. Pretty easy to break them and I am guessing that is why some are missing.
