Ok, guys, talk to me. First, I need to know which linkage rod to use on my 71 Comet GT. I am installing a factory C4 back into it. I have the factory shifter that I am rebuilding. I also have a linkage rod, but not sure it is the right one. Who has a picture of the right one? Second, how many wires should be coming out of the shifter bucket? All I have is one, thinking it is for the bucket light. Then again, how about the reverse switch? Thanks.

It is for the bulb that lights up your gear indicator , back up switch is on the trans.

Here is the linkage you need. You can also see the neutral safety switch.

Craig, it has been a while since I installed an automatic. I do not have the upper linkage that goes from the shifter to the tranny. I need to buy one (do you have one?). I do have the bottom linkage, but what is it for? Da!

Oh yes, the lower linkage is for the downshift rod that connects to the back of the carb. Question. Do I really need one? Or, can I use one of the cables I see on the internet? Thoughts?

The bottom linkage is NOT a down shift rod. It is the rod that goes from the trans to the steering column.

I do not have any of these for sale.

Thanks much. This is a first. I've not heard of a linkage rod from the tranny to steering wheel. My car already has an internal lock in the steering column. What does this linkage rod do?

When the transmission is shifted, this rod rotates the collar on the steering column. That way when you remove the key, the shifter can't be moved.
