I am looking for a direct bolt in 3 core radiator for my 302 mill into my 70 Maverick. The engine is built for moderate performance i would say. I want to do this right the first time. The engine is running 9.2:1 static compression ratio, with the cylinders bored .040 oversize. I have a comp cams 268H bump stick. The heads are cast iron 69 351w heads that have been given the "usual" performance upgrades (1.94in/1.6ex) gasket matched and polished bowl blended and what not. I plan to run a high flow water pump. A three core is what i want, but if a 2 core (stock replacement) would suffice for my planned use of the car (street 99%) that would be great as well. Any responce is greatly appreciated, Kyle B.
If it were me kyle I think I would go ahead and buy the 3 core and consider it money well spent. at least that way you would be covered no matter what....dunno just my opinion but how much is a new 3 core???? the reason I ask is the universal aluminum radiators are under $200 and are reasonbly easy to mount......but you will have to install an external tranny cooler also(but in my opinion thats better anyway) just more food for thought.......
I agree with Robert. I bought a 3 core last year and then bought my Howe this year. They were the same price, and the performance of the aluminum is more than worth the little modifying that needs to be done to get it in the car.
You definitely want a 3-core...especially with the 040 overbore (runs a little hotter). Mavericks with factory A/C came stock with 3-core radiators. Most radiator shops should be able to get you one. I paid $180 for mine but that was 13 years ago...
I would get the three core as well. Also, if you run a hi-volume water pump, get a hi-flow thermostat. I really don't think you need a hi-volume pump, though. Your set up isn't that radical.
