My mechanic said today that I was missing the plastic radiator shroud on my 76 Maverick. He said that it would help the car run cooler. I don't know quite what he is talking about, does anyone know? I think it goes around the outside of the radiator.

Pics would help if possible. Where can you purchase this?

Right he is. It helps direct the flow and concentrates it to make cooling a bit more efficient. The shroud is plastic and bolts up on the engine side of the rad. I have a nice one if you want to put one on. E-mail me if you are interested.

It really only helps at idle and really slow vehicle speeds. After that, airflow through the radiator is not driven by the fan but by vehicle speed.

Installing a shroud actually cooled my Maverick by almost 10 degrees...They definitely work. It's strange how some Mavericks have 'em and others don't...

I just ordered the "RamCharger" dual fan,
    Part number 674001 for $79.99 from www.ramchargers.com

    ref: http://www.ramchargers.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay?

...and that's on a FMS huge radiator for a 87-93 Mustang.

I couldn't find anything that came close to the volume I needed that specifically fit the Mavericks and Comets.

For $80, I'd say it's a very good deal (maybe an addition to ANY radiator).

T.L. - You stated that the fan shroud cooled your Maverick by almost 10 degrees. Was that the engine temp or a/c temp in the car?
