Just when I thought I was finally finished and finally getting everything back together (just did my Oil Pan seals and had to take the radiator out to get the pan out) the upper radiator hose spigot has to bust off!! as i'm tryin to work the new hose on, when it popped off it got bent I tried to straigten it and pound it back on but it's no use it's too distorted I can probably get it to seat in there but once the system gets full and preasurised it'll no doubt leak. Now i'm really in a bind because I need another radiator it's just as well this one is rusted out on the inside and has mashed coils on the bottom I knew it needed replacing but I wanted to wait until I had money for a new one because I wanted to get an Aluminum one w/Fan Shroud now I have to go to the freakin junk yard and hope to God I can find a replacement to get by for awhile on that won't cost me an arm and a leg and 4 pints of blood, Radiators don't seem to be cheap these days . Why does it seem like when you fix one problem another one immediatley pops up?? oh well live, learn, and spend a small fortune I guess, don't mind me I just needed to vent.. Wasn't sure which forum to post this in.
I have recored radiator for a 302 auto. the work was done approx. 5 monthes ago, I went with a larger one for my blower set up if you are interested I would sell it for $75.00 plus shipping. Chandler
That is a very good price for a radiator but unfortunatley i'm not quite sure it would work, I have a 200 Inline 6 (no A/C) I should have mentioned that. Thanx anyway though
"I have a 200 Inline 6 (no A/C) I should have mentioned that." It would work. A radiator from any more powerful combination would actually be an upgrade from what you had originally. It is not uncommon to install a V8/ac radiator to help correct problems when moving into a hotter location.....like Southern California.
MavJoe, When I used to run 6 cyl. I used the v-8 radiator they are interchangeable and like Jayman said it will help if you have a motor that runs alittle warmer then most. Chandler
the main problem I have seen with that is the hose inlets and outlets on the 250-302 rad has a larger size hose outlets.....
I have what looks to be a fairly new radiator for the 6cyl. According to the guy I got the car from, it was just purchased less than a month before I picked it up & I junked the car. I'm asking $50. The only problem is I'm on the other coast so it might be cheaper to find something closer.
outlet sizes There was a post on the outlet sizes sometime ago, And my response was that if the diameter is larger then the orginal I went to the local parts house and bought a piece of hose that fit it that worked as a sleeve, it works great. Where did I get the idea, off a newer Ford car, it is one of there ideas!!!
Checked AutoZone today they want $179 for a stock replacement w/lifetime warranty. Good price but for $20 more I can get an Aluminum Radiator
Chandler when you had the raidator in your car what did the temp run at??? were you running an electric fan or manual??? This is a stock 302 radiator that has been fixed or something I assume. Also will this work with ac?? thanks William
Took my radiator to the shop today should get it back tomorrow, trying to see if I can get mine fixed it may be a long shot but doesn't hurt to try
I feel your pain.. I just got my main headache fixed. got my breaks working near perfect, and while Im doin a break check my tranny takes a BIG dump.. got stuck in first, column shift broke, and tranny started dumping at least a quart per minute.. all at the same time....
Here's a potential option which worked well for me when I needed a rad for my '90 Subaru 4x4. There's an outlet in Ohio that ships free overnight. Their prices are surprisingly very good (paid about $90 for the Subaru rad). They're called "Auto Radiator Outlet" and their phone is 1-800-252-0333. The best part is that I got a new warranted rad with brass tanks instead of those garbage plastic ones. It was generic but fit perfectly and functions great. They also have a web site, www.radiator.com. Hope this helps.
It's Fixed Got the radiator back today, spigot was soldered back on I installed it in the car earlier and put some Radiator Flush solution in the system to flush out all the old crap. Ran the car several times seems to work good, the flushing thing is gonna take a couple days cause the system was so neglected by the Previous Owner, I put in clear water and when I drained it it was deep deep brown in color. Had a slight issue at first on the new thermostat housing it's supposedly universal. The port where an A/C hose would plug in (I have a cap there) was leaking when the system got preasurized had to redo that I put some thread sealant on there and tightend it down real good seems to work ok now.
William, sorry for the delay in responding, the radiator ran 180 degrees just what my thermastat was, I changed it due to the blower I needed a 4 core instead, I had never had a problem with this radiator I had to have the top inlet coupling moved 1" to the right so the hose would not hit the belt, I ran it a couple days and realized that it was not going to keep it as cool as I wanted for cruising. At the time I was running a manuel fan, since then I am running a electric. This was a a/c radiator. Chandler
