I just had a Secret Audio installed in my 1973 Maverick. It works on the accessory switch and the ignition on switch, but sometimes turns off when I switch the motor on. It doen't turn off all the time, but does some of the time, and power must not be getting to it, because I can't turn it on when I'm driving. I can stop and switch off the motor and change the switch position, and the radio will come on again.

The man who installed it for me hooked it up the the existing AM radio connections. But the AM radio didn't work. I don't know why, it may be the speaker or the radio itself and not the connections, but it's possible the original connections are bad. Does anyone have any ideas? My guy can't figure it out.

I would guess the key cylinder is hanging up a little. When it does not power on turn the key cylinder back slightly to see if that helps.

I'd also check and make sure the fuse contacts are free of rust and corrosion. When I first got my '74 Grabber on the road, the radio (and several other things) worked intermittently like that. The fuse box was corroded.

Fuse box corrosion sounded like a real possibility, but it didn't turn out to be the right one. It has something to do with the CD changer. If I leave the radio set to CD, and turn off the car, and turn it back on again, the CD changer will shut power off to the head unit. If the CD is turned off before shutting off the car and not turned on again until after starting the car, it works. It also works if the tuner is set to a radio station when turned off and on, but not when it is set to CD.

The repair guy from Custom Autosound said I could send back both units (CD Changer & Tuner/Amp), but I want the sound system for when I drive to Reno this weekend. So if it is still bothering me when I get home, I'll send it back.

sounds like corroded wires, contacts, fusses, ext. I would recomend getting in there and checking out the wires, and if they are cracked or corroded, get some wire with good insulation.
