Ranger trans help. Please?

    I have a '94, 3.0, 2WD automatic Ford ranger. The trans has had a leak (front seal) for some time. Lately (last 4 days) the trans slips until I get the revs up to about 1300 then it slams into gear. I am afraid it is gone but any suggestions or tests I can do to check before pulling it out?

    I would replace the seal in the front pump assembly an see what happens.
