    Good Morning Y'all,

I'm going to work on changing my rear end gear ratio. I don't think I'm going to do it myself because I never have and don't have any special tools for it. I don't want my rear end to whine real bad and end up breaking up.

If I were to bring a box of parts for my 8" to an axle shop to replace the R&P, what all do I need? This is one area I haven't dove into before so even when looking at bearings on Summit, for example, I'm unsure how to get my proper size, etc.

    Thanks!

do you need or just want new bearings?
you can get the gears by them self or a gear set with an install kit, less axial seals. $200-$300 labor.

Better talk to the axle shop first and determine what their policy is concerning installation of customer supplied parts. Many times they will only install parts they have acquired. Parts are a portion of their profit, plus there may be a warranty issue.

On the flip side, if you know a good shop and know the owner, they may give you a break on the parts. - Matt
