Just picked up a set of 4 used Magnum 500's (2x 14"x6"and 2x 14"x7"), chrome is in good shape on all and only 2 of the trim rings need to be replaced (all dinged up). My issue is that there is some surface rust along the inside rim that is normally hidden by the trim ring and the some rust along the portion of the wheel covered by the tire... http://mmb.maverick.to/gallery/showimage.php?i=12114&c=8&userid=15180 I realize that the surface rust needs to go but what's the best method to remove it? What do I paint the wheel with (type of paint/method)? Can I get away with just removing the surface rust and only touching up the paint in the relevant area? Thank you in advance for taking the time to review/reply.
if it was me I would tape of the chrome and bead blast the painted area and re-paint with a high temp semi-gloss black paint ,,
if it were me, I would tape off the chrome and steel wool the painted area. then re-paint with a high temp high-gloss black paint ... you can also clean the chrome with...fine steel wool...and chrome polish. ......
