Just did the same...I want to bend up a nice NASCAR type dash.
There are 4, maybe 5, screws at the leading edge of the dash. Mine were covered by the W/S gasket. Had the glass shop come take it out for some peace of mind. With the W/S out, it takes about 2 minutes to finish dropping the dash. Good Luck. Send some pics of the dash when you get it done.

currently undecided as to how the dash will look.. most likely it will look pretty crappy  :D

is it as simple as just having a shop remove the windshield *which i would most likely have a shop do.. dont need broken glass everywhere*??? i was under the impression that i needed to remove the cowl where the wipers were at as well??
    thanks :D

The cowl on our Mavs are welded in there...damn. With the W/S out you'll be able to see the situation fine. I'm doing a complete repaint so the W/S coming out was a win-win.

I'm doing something different...I've always done street rods but got tired of the big, big $$$ it takes to build a modern rod. Bought my rock solid, southern Mav cheap and decided to throw some street rodder tricks to it. I know I won't see 20 hot rod Mavs at a show like I used to with the 32 hiboy.
After all, it's 30 years old...so what's the harm with cutting it up and making it a safe, fast, little hotrod??

somebody that thinks like me!!! :D:D:D

well prolly not.... part of me wants to "gmachine" my 4door... part of me says dont screw it up anymore... the other part says.... "you dont know jack about cars, now you got one to learn on!"

what kinda ideas were you talking about? ideas that are more "street rod" i guess?

If you're going to build 'em fast, make sure they're safe...good brakes, tires, suspension...you know.
All car nuts want something differant than the rest of the crowd but still seen as "Cool". There seems to be an under current in the car world of "retro" and low $$$....things have come full circle again. The rich guys that don't turn wrenches just buy 'em, get tired of it , and move on to a new toy. The real gear head makes do with the $$$ and materials he's got.
I've always wanted to build a fast Mav', Don Nicholson and Gapp & Roush were always my heros. Nice Mustangs are too $$$. I've had a few. A Maverick is a baby Mustang that can make a real unique hotrod!!
Since the aftermarket doesn't make a lot of stuff for 'em like Mustangs and Camaros, builders need to use more ingenuity...just like the old days!!! I started with just an ordinary '73 Mav', I'm not cutting up a "history significant" car...whatever the Hell that is. I'll put whatever $$$ and ideas I want into it , drive the shit out of it, and have fun. IT'S ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN!!!!

    dash ideas

You didn't sound too confident about your mechanical skills?
If fabricating an 'ugly' dash is your thing, go for it. If you want some aesthetics as well as a unique look, why not keep the factory dash, and change the gauges for an aftermarket set.
Check the post archives to look at some sharp pitures of replacement speedos and tachs in the factory panel.
Use your creative fabrication skills to make neat gauge setups such as in the A/C vent, if you have one that you intend not to use.
Another idea would be the pillar mounted gauges. Maybe you can make a unique look without removing the factory one.

Paint your dash for a different look.

Make yours look different. Imagine what you can do with what is there, unless you really want a stainless steel racing type dash.

The reason I offer these suggestions is that you didn't seem too confident about building a new one.

    Good Luck.
