I bought a box of these bulbs - they are not even close to the orginal type of bulb that twist and lock into the back of the instrument cluster. They are more like the marker light bulbs.
If they are like the side marker bulbs.....then you have the right type of bulb. Twist the bulbs out of your dash, and then remove the "bulb" from the holder. You will see they are the same.
I bought some and installed them in my dash cluster. They fit the holders just fine. Didn't get to try them yet. My whole interior is removed from the car. Maybe tonight when it gets dark I'll connect a battery to the cluster and see how they look. Think I should play it safe and wear sunglasses when I turn them on?
Is that a bright glow I see to my northeast, low in the horizon? (I think I'll wear them just in case)!
Cool! I didn't have my dash out of the car and never realized that the bulbs remove from the holder that twists in! Fits perfect ... but not ready to try them yet ... FYI - got them at NAPA - part number 171777 - $10 for a box of 10 ...
Worked great, not up to the standards of today's cars but an improvement from what was in there for sure! Took me about 15 minutes. I recommend everyone on the board do this to their mav.
Thanks! I'm going to be putting in a new instument cluster regulator, so while I've torn into it, I might as well go for brighter lights.
I wouldn't mind alittle more info on the bulbs so I can do this. Mine seem alittle dim. Is that a NAPA specific part number? Can I get them elsewhere?
Here are some colored Xenon Colored Bulbs ... http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-ie2xrIPxqlP/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=12&g=89500&I=50719437++
Put the Sylvania bulbs in my dash, and it is much better. I can actually see things at twilight now. Thanks for the tip! Earl
A big round of applause for GS, the origional poster of the swap, had it not been for him I would have developed a severe squinting problem.
