Is there anything special I need to do went setting my distributor in my 302 maverick? I pulled it to make the removal of my manifold easier. Now it is time to put it back together and need some help.

    Thanks

    setting the dist.

bigmavman,as long as you didn't move the crank, just line up the rotor,to point at #1 on your dist.and drop it in.make sure that you compensate for the travel on the cam/dist. gear.if the crank got bumped, have a bud turn the crank bolt with a ratchet and socket,(remove the #1 sparkplug)while he is turning the crank, feel for pressure,(enough to push your finger up)that should put your #1piston tdc or pretty close on the compression stroke.then drop in your dist.someone else on the forum might have a easier/different way but this is the easiest way i have found(for me).i also put a little assembly lube on the dist.gear.good luck with your project...chuck.

INLINE6 is correct ONLY if you shut it down at TDC. Look at the timing marks on the dampner. You need to have the timing pointer at TDC on the commpression stroke before you line it up on #1 and drop it in. I pull the #1 plug, wad up some toliet tissue and put it in the plug hole. Then turn the motor over by havd (breaker bar or torque wrench work wekk. When the tissue "pops" out and the marks line up, then do as above. If you get a popping back through the carb, don't panic! Turn the distributor/rotor 180* God luck.. Scotty

If the motor is not moved, it goes back in at the same point it came out. You needed to look at this before taking it out and write it down or mark the rotor to housing position to return it to the same location.
