Hey guys, I have a B&M megashifter that is ratchet style. I am having some questions on the proper operation of the shifter. It seems that when the shifter is pulled all the way back into first gear that it wants to slip out and shift on its own at low rpm's. This action happens when I am crusing on the street and have never dragged the car so I am not sure if the same thing would happen under a heavier load. Can anybody offer suggestions on how to properly operate this shifter? Thanks...

The transmission is a 3 speed C4 with a shift kit.

    Later,

Your bottom linkage on the tranny is probably not in the right spot. The linkage on the tranny it might be in second gear not first. It only goes the second right? Not third right?

To make sure disconnect the cable from the shifter put the shifter in the first gear spot and then put the tranny linkage in the first gear spot then reconnect the cable to the tranny linkage. Maybe thats the problem. Your shifter may say 1st gear but the tranny is really sitting in second. Just a thought. Of course this all depends on how someone set up the valve body as well.

If its not that it could be a valve body problem, but most likely not.

Hope you get it to work.

I have the same style shifter on my mav. The cable that comes with it is a tight fit. What I mean by that is when the cable is securely in place and in first gear, then it is hard to get into "Park". You have to keep playing with(adjusting on it) till you find that happy medium. Best way to do that is to jack the car up(using proper saftey) and have someone in the car. Go through the steps that Maverick Man mentioned. Then have them push the shifter into 2nd. Then you, (while still under the car) wiggle the shift bracket and make sure it is "seated" into 2nd. Then continue those steps for every gear and park. There is a happry medium, it will still be tight, but you just have to find it. Good luck!

are you sure you have it in first, you pickup on the fingergrip deals, then pull the shifter back as far as it will go and thats drive, then you pull the shifter handle back one time, and thats second, the you pull it back one more time and your in first,i never had a problem with the shifter when i had the car ,might make sure you know how to operate it first before you go adjusting things, hope that helps.anth
