This thread was inspired by the pictures Dave (DDB) posted of his new leaf spring installation. I could see his shop stereo in the background.

So....what do you guys and gals have for a shop stereo?

I just picked this one up. It is a harman/kardon hk795i.

This was THE stereo to have back in 1987/1988. $795 just for what you see back then. I was walking thru Goodwill last week and a worker brought this up from the back and put it out for sale. I recognized it...but it was marked as a "surround sound unit" and that it "worked". Price: $20

    Sound quality: priceless

That is a pretty good score!

New house, new "shop". Will expand eventually, but for now...

20-year-old boom box w/AM, FM, cassettte, CD. I was just looking out in the garage the other day for where I could mount speakers in the ceiling and maybe put a small, cheap flat-screen tv.

We used a lot of factory car stereos, hooked up speakers and ran it with 110 - 12v converter. Most housestereos / boomboxes couldn't pull in the radio stations that we liked where we were at, and a good car stereo will pull in almost anything. we had everything located in a plastic toolbox with a plug on it to plug it in anywhere you had 110. worked great.

I have an old 2 spk radio I have on the shelf I use for general listening. I use the system in the Comet when I really want to crank up some serious sounds. This method works for me an is probably better than most anything I wud want to put in the garage.
I have it on a switch bypassing the ignition. If I play if for a long time I just hook up the Battery Tender - "That's the Way I Roll".

What? That old thing? Bought it from "Granada" (a rental place) 20+ years ago, I have it hooked to a Direct TV receiver, with an old card so I can get sat radio (it's free) I have 3 sets of speakers (on a switch), out front of the garage in the sofit, 2 Cerwin Vega speakers on the side of the garage, for the backyard, and 2 Technics box speakers mounted to the rear wall of the garage. Oh yeah, it also has an iPod input. :)

I have an old Panasonic table radio that a temp left at work. We used it there for a few years and then I brought it home. Not stereo, no ext. speakers, no tone control (just High and low switch). Dropped one too many times and held together with masking tape. Works great.
