I'm sorry, but if I wanted to die in a wreck, I'd do it on a Harley rather in one of those death capsules.

I was nearly killed by a Chrysler mini-van when I was driving a land yacht. If I had been in one of those, I'd be 11 years dead now.

A little less fuel economy vs life/death... Fuel economy is going to lose! Especially considering my 3 kids have to travel in my choice of safe/unsafe vehicle.

My 61 Savoy would have been mad at me for scratching the paint if I would have hit one of those.

Never thought about that, but you know it wouldn't surprise me.
Tree huggers put fictional global warming threats ahead of factual human well-being. "It's a problem bigger than any one person" means they can kill you without regret. Yet their biggest spokesmen and supporters go around in Hummers, limos, and private jets.

Smarts are highly rated in crash tests IN THEIR CLASS which is Micro car. The main issue being that Micr car makes up a tiny percentage of the vehicles on the American roads. In Japan this is no problem but here we still have 1975 Imperials and 1973 Galaxies running around.
Mini Coopers are Subcompacts by comparison.

At least thats how I read it somewhere.

The bad part is their fuel economy is nothing to brag about for a vehicle that size
    33/41 according to their website
    http://smartusa.com/smart-car-technical-specifications.aspx

for a car that little kids are not allowed to ride in that does not make much sense...

Oh and yes they do have a good safety rating for the micro car catergory(in the US there is only 1 micro car)

    the government tests are here
    http://www.safercar.gov/portal/site...toid=c95df2905bf54110VgnVCM1000002fd17898RCRD
    the insurance tests are here
    http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=937

remember the statement at the top of the page the insurance companys use
"Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight."

so in all techinicality all of the 5 star ratings are against other smart cars....

i saw one of those things crashed in philly. and to everyones surprise, the smart car absolutely obliterated the '90 something pontiac it went up against.

that being said, theres a reason that a car that tiny gets such mediocre gas mileage: they are loaded with reinforced steel, tempered glass, crumple points, and airbags.

sure honda and geo were putting out cars with better mpgs almost 20 years ago now, but they were putting out the true rolling death traps.

..then again, if you get hit by an 18-wheeler in any car; youre gonna be wishing you stayed home that day.:p
