    Hey,

I'm probably going to buy a head unit for the Mav sometime soon. I currently have a factory AM/FM Philco Stereo in it, and it just doesn't cut it, reception is in and out, and you can't turn it up alot without it starting to get static sounding. I"ll probably get better speakers while I'm at it. So, after looking around I'm interested in the DEH-1900MP, I like the look of it and it's not an arm and a leg. Anyone have any advice to give or experience with this unit or one like it? here's a link to it. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069880_335159562,00.html

Now for speakers, I was looking at these: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069904_375711944,00.html

Probably either those which are rated at 250 Watts Max, and 40 Watts nominal, or the ones which are exactly the same other than they are 300 Watts Max. I don't know to much about the mechanics of stereos and such. So I could use some advice on this. I want the best sounding system I can get without spending a bundle, and I want good bass sound that doesn't vibrate the heck out of everything. I probably wouldn't be going with a sub woofer, so I want something that sounds realy good if I'm not planning to go that route. I'm mainly trying to figure out which speakers give me the best sound and quality to match with that head unit.

I think what you have picked out looks pretty good.

    Also check out: www.crutchfield.com

I personally like the Kenwood head Units better....but Pioneer is good too.

Get a dual voice coil front speaker like I have in my car (do a search) and the entire system will be very affordable and sound great.

I listened to pioneers and sonys and found that polk and infinity were less tinny. I dont have a subwoofer and these sound pretty good with my 54W head unit. 10-100 watts RMS / 300 peak. I was told anything better would need to be driven with an amplifier. $89, crutchfield cant be beat

I also got the matching 6" round ones for the front.

If you install a cheap set of baffles, it will enhance the sound of whatever speaker you choose. $8.99

I was looking at the Kenwoods also, and I liked the look if this one: http://kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/In-Dash_CD_n_DVD_Receivers/1-DIN_CD_Receiver/KDC-MP235 that's taken directly from their website. Couldn't find that model local and online the few I could find were using that same Model number KDC-MP235, but they had blue or red lighting on them instead of the green. What's the deal with that? I sent a message to Kenwood about it but never received a response. That one is not SAT ready yet some of the ones that were available from ebay or other websites forsale were, and had the same model number. If I got that one I wanted it to be green in color as that picture depicts.

You can also call Crutchfield directly and talk to a live person. They can answer all kinds of questions and are very well versed in everything they sell.

I seem to recall a headunit that let you choose what color lighting it has. I think it was Kenwood or Pioneer.

As far as model numbers......it seems that different stores/outlets carry the exact same headunit and/or speakers...but the manufacterer puts out a different model number based on who has it???? I guess it keeps a consumer from comparing prices.

Many of the Sony units have a choice of screen colors. For the amount of features you get and the price it's pretty hard to beat the Sony's. If absolute best performance and reliability are important hands down go with Alpine. My Sony has 7 band EQ, independant sub output, Dynamic sound stage organizer (it manipulates the sound to make it appear to be coming straight from in front of you with door mounted speakers) choice of 7 screen colors (you can change them at any time) credit card size wireless remote, ect. ect. ect. loaded with features. I think I paid $239 from Crutchfield. Nobody better including the box stores with their 16 yr. old salesmen than Crutchfield. They really know their stuff and won't steer you wrong.

I put 6X9s in my front doors and used those XTC foam thingys behind them to keep out the water that normally drains through the door.
