I am so angry at this momment, Ill have to buy a new keyboard after typing this. Hopefully some of yall can help me out with this. Long story short, I spent 6 hours polishing and prepping the Maverick for a cruise in tomorrow. I finally finished well after sun down, cleaned myself up, and decide to go get some food. So, got in my truck (Ford Ranger - 5spd - 4.10 rear diff - Flowmaster exhaust - Those facts will be important later) and headed to Taco Bell. Half way there a cop whips his car around and pulls me over. Claims he clocked me at 50MPH in a 35... Here's the #$%%#@ problem with that story... Yes I was in a 35mph... But there is NO WAY IN HELL I was doing 50mph! Why? 3 reasons - I recognized in advance this guy was a cop. I looked at my speedo and saw 38mph and decided to hold steady with that... Ill verify in the morning, but my GPS should show about 36mph at that speed - my speedo is a tad off. The 2nd reason is the truck was in 4th gear still. If I had been doing 50mph, the damn truck would have been making some noise. (remember, the 4.10gears w/ the flowmaster) In fact, I double checked after he let me go and verified that at 50mph in 4th gear, I am doing 2600RPM with an obnoxious roar resonating through the cab! I know for a FACT I was NOT at 2600RPM. And finally, I was about 300feet from an intersection and was getting ready to drop down into 3rd so I could hang a right. Dropping to 3rd at 50mph would be... dumb.... Infact, doing 50mph coming up on a red light.... Yeah... that's likely. All in all, THIS DOES NOT ADD UP. I LIVE on that freakin road - 70% of the time a cop is on that road - Why the hell would I be speeding? Anyhow, for the part yall can help me with - The guy was obviously pretty young - new cop. Seemed like a nice guy, and said he "felt for me" when I explained to him the counter evidence and asked him not to right me a ticket. Then went on to say he can't NOT give me a ticket after he called it in. Is that true? Also, he told me this : "I was preparring to turn left, when I swithced the radar from still to moving, and it showed 50mph" Can the radar units be shifted on a fly like that? Seems a breif moment of calibration would be needed - A clean viewing field perhaps. Also, would the him "preparring to turn left" throw off the reading? He was in fact in the process of slowing, and angling his car in preperration of turning when i came into his viewing feild. (around a curve) Would that throw off the reading? This whole situation is complete crap. The cop seemed like a good guy, so I am not particularly angry at him - but the whole damn situation. Thoughts
wow.... remind me not to piss you off lol when i first read this i thought something happened to the maverick (fiew) im telling you im so glad cops stay in the town were i live mabey next time you should go 10 so he will clock you at 35 =)
I would fight it. Ask for the calibration information of his radar unit and ask for the officer's training records showing that he knows how to correctly use the equipment.
LOL! Thought about that actually... I am goin in Monday morning to speak to the Police Chief. The way it is done around here, you have to show up and wait hours just to plead guilty, then you are given a court date. That is two, full, waisted days that I can't spare. On a side note, I now have a video camera mounted in the truck, that will record when I am driving. Let them pull this crap again
