It's coming to the time in which I need to put on my sport mirrors but I dont know where they mount. My car only came with one mirror (non-sport) and I need to know where to mount the new ones. If somebody could send me a picture and some measurements of their set up that would be very helpful. For the passenger side I also need to know how the cable is supposed to get from the door to the drivers side there is a small antena wire hole but it doesn't look to be big enough to fit. Also I seem to be missing one of the plastic gaskets that prevents the mirror from scratching the car any ideas where I can get one? Thanks

I am not sure if this is how others did theres but on my car I also had just the one chrome mirror and I put the sport mirrors on it. If you are standing looking at your drivers door the back hole where the old mirror mounted is the location that I used for the back hole on the sport mirror, and then made sure that the mirror was level and transfered the hole for the one closes to the fender. And then on the passenger side of the car I messured the location of the hole for the back mirror and transfered that hole and then again placed the mirror on the door and leveled it up and then transfered the hole closest to the fender. I hope this helps you out man. I am not sure what they are called but you can go to the body shop and get these nutt certs that you place in the door and when you place the srew in them they will suck up and hold tight to the sheet metal on the door itself.

    Thats how I did mine

Mavaholic and I were checking this out at Carlisle this year. Seems the factory mounted them in different locations. Earlier cars had them mounted closer to the front edge of the door, we think. On my '70 the front screw hole is 8" from the door edge.

I measured mine from the body seam on the door just alittle easier to locate on the tape measure. At least for me :D:smash:

    Dont forget

just puttin in my 2 cents...
Are you going to use the factory type anchors? If so, where do you get the tool and anchors for the install. I am going to put my mirrors on this week and dont know where to find these parts. I am hoping my local ford dealer will put them on for me but I dont know what they are going to charge.....

Also, is there some type of after market anchor system for these.

    Thanks,
    JP

The Nut-serts and the tool to install them is available through Harbor Freight Tools

Thats it. Buy extra nut thingies cause you'll go through a bunch till you get used to how to properly install them. But once you get it, its pretty cool. Also use stainless steel screws and put a little antiseze compound on the threads.

It takes alot less pressure to install them then you think. You will pull the threads out of many before you get the right touch. Voice of experience. I wont tell you how many I had to drill back out. Unfortunately they are made out of aluminum so its easy to pull the threads out.
