i JUST installed my new passenger door, NOT relizing it didnt have the holes for my sport mirros.. What should i do? drill out the OLD nutserts on my OLD door and install them on my new door? Thanks GUys! CHaz
You can get the nutserts new out of a mustang parts catalog or go to a good auto body supply house and buy em.Get the install tool also or you will go nuts trying to get em to lock up in the holes you drilled in the doors for em.Auto krafters sells em too.You wont have much luck trying to re-use the old ones.good luck.
Yes, get new ones...you can not save the old ones. They compress similar to a pop rivet when installed.
Slider, do you have the tool? I have plenty of steel nutserts in the correct size. without looking I believe they are 8-32
I sure dont.. But thats ok.. IM going to wait till i paint the car. when i get the decals im going to have a shop put those on the car and ill have them mess with drilling and putting in the nutserts.. Thanks Guys!!!! CHaz
I have a complete Rivnut kit... Too bad you aren't close by. It would take just a minute to do. I guess you are just installing one side? There are several folks here that had to reinstall the mirrors and moved them forward... To the position of the early years. Seems to be more comfortable placement. Just heads up in case you are working on both sides. Ford moved the mirrors closer to the driver on our cars in 71 or 72... Forgot which.
Is this the one your referring to? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=1210 Item number 1210-6VGA That's pretty cheap if it works..... I used stove bolts and lock nuts on my car, but I'd like to change it to the "correct" mounting, as long as the holes I already drilled aren't too large. Art
I'm guessing that's the name for "the thing that spins and won't hold the bolt" on my mirror! LOL I was trying to figure out how to get it out, and what to ask for to replace it. thanks1! Rhonda
