I’m about to start up my Maverick after sitting all winter. I was unable to give it a start periodically while in storage. It’s the original 2 bbl and I know it will need some help, either with starting fluid or a bit of fresh gas dribbled into the carb. The battery was kept in a warm garage all winter was topped up periodically. What method do you recommend? Is starting fluid acceptable?

By the way, I watched a guy fire up a blown Hemi a few weeks ago and he gave it a copious amount of starting fluid right through the blower.

Dribble a little gas down carb, if it starts and dies dribble a little more.

Worked fine on my Fairlane a few days ago. It last ran early Dec, set over winter, no tender on batt.

Alternatly you can add a couple ounces of gas through the carb vent. Pump throttle four or five times.

I transferred some fresh gas into an empty fuel injection cleaner bottle ( with the long stem), and dribbled a few oz into the carb. We the gave it several pumps and with the choke closed, it fired right up.

You can also pour some gas using a mustard bottle or something similar down through the float bowl vents to help prefill the bowl. It helps keep the engine running long enough for the fuel pump to do its job.
