Okay, I noticed that after I take out the key the steering wheel still turns. The ignition switch doesn't turn after I remove the key, but steering isn't locking.

I realize the steering wheel usually turns so far and then it locks, but not in this case. It continues to travel, allowing you to turn the wheels without the key in it.

    Any ideas?

The spring-loaded lock pin has probably broken off...Take a trip to the junk yard--any early '70s Ford column parts will work...

    Thanks T.L.,

Question, how do you replace it? I have never taken anything apart on the column before. Looks like a good time to learn.

    Any advice or suggestions?

Its been awhile but if I remember correctly, you remove the steering wheel and its right there at the top of the column. Get a steering wheel puller and save yourself lots of aggrevation.

Save yourself the cash on a steering wheel puller. Loosen the nut that holds the wheel on and make it flush to the bolt. Then pull the wheel with your left hand in the upper left corner and put your right foot on the floor and pry the lower right side of the wheel and whack the bolt a bit and it will pop right out. Obviously dont hit it hard enough to mess anything up. just enough. Po folk way of doing it.
