I know how to remove a radio, I did it once on the first maverick I bought. But in that one the wiring is hopelessly shot. Anyway, on to the point. In my new maverick all of the stereo stuff is perfectly intact. At some point the guy that sold it to me had a cd player in it and even gave me a metal brace he had made to hold the Cd player in the dash. My question is how do i get the radio out without destroying anything? I remember when I took the radio out of the other car it was a rather sloppy job. i had an especially hard time trying to get the radio out "Backwards" through the dash. I think I screwed up some wires while doing that. What is that green box under the radio? I'm terrified of it and have no idea what it does. Also, I have my A/C box to deal with in the new maverick. Will I have to remove it temporarily? My final plan is to run new speakers all through the car and leave the one in the center of the dash completely untouched and not a part of the new system at all. this will involve running speakers and the cd player output to an amp in the trunk and setting up a system that way. Any thoughts or advice? The stereo is basically the most important part for me.

Never took one out but I did put on in. I had the lower dash off at the time so it was kinda straight froward. On my '74 the box under the radio is yellow and it goes to the "seatbelt gotta be on before it will start" electronics.

Good to know about the box. I'm not so worried about it anymore. I've got to do a search on how to remove the lower dash. Thank you.

They say if you cut the wires or do away with the box you can't start the car anymore. So un-screw the bracket and let it hang and put it back when you finish messing with the stereo.

Good point. For some stupid reason it never occurred to me to try and unscrew it. I just remembered something, though. I've started both cars without buckling, no problem. Hmmm.

Yeah mine is rewired under the hood at the over ride switch...ain't had time to look a figure out how it was done. If it's working why fix it.

That's my probelm- before the guy sold it to me he put the stock radio back in. I want to be sure I don't screw it up taking anything out. Plus the radio in it looks different than the one in my other maverick that I took out, although I think the other one was aftermarket and this one is a stock one. I also don't want to harm the radio itself, so I can sell it later if I want to.

Well to install another cd payer your going to have to cut the plate the radio goes into which means you will need another radio plate to install the original radio. If your willing to do that the rest is easy.

I got the radio out after I removed the dash and bolted in a plate the guy I bought it from had made to accommodate a cd player. So soon enough I'll have a head unit to put in there. Pics coming as soon as I can get my comp to recognize my camera.
