hi everyone,i came across a 8 grand adjustable redline tach made by stewart warner.this thing appears to be late 60's early 70's.i took the back off and traced the wires:it has two black, one red wire and one green wire.the two black lead to the bulb, but i am lost on the red wire and the green wire.can anyone help?on the face it says:stewart warner 827909 made in usa.perhaps i could send someone a picture and they could post it on this sight?,(still learning on the camera)and maybe identify the year.thanks in advance for any help, advice, and input.drive safe chuck.

The red connects to a "key on" positive source.
The Green connects to the negative side of the ignition coil.

Some of those old tachs weren't switchable between using on a 6 cyl. and a 8cyl. like modern tachs are now. If that's the case and it's for a v8 it won't read correctly on your 6 cyl.

    Careful...

... Some tachs, Sun and Stewart Warner require a transmitter to work. And yes the previous post is correct re: number of cylinders.
On the Sun tachs the transmitter was different depending on # of cylinders. I am not sure about Stewart Warner transmitters.

Do a websearch and find some info on Stewart Warner Vintage tachs. Or, call some of the repair shops for vintage gauges and describe and give your serial/model # to them. They can tell you exactly what you need.

I have several vintage tachs. They do not all hook up as stated in the previous post.
