    Hi All,
I was wondering if any of you know where I can find some stock vinyl upholstery for my 1973 Maverick (Brother's car that I am driving while finishing mine). Anyway, the car is in real nice stock condition and the only problems are that the plain vinyl on the side of the bench seat and the middle (between the passenger and driver, the non-tooled part) has some rips in them that cannot be repaired without replacing the whole piece. This is fine with me, but no one here can locate any vinyl with the exact same color as stock. Where can I find some stock vinyl? Does anyone have any NOS stuff or ????? The interior is Avacado, code HG, and the exterior is a green very similar to it, code 4B. Does anyone else have any of these colors? I have never seen any other Mavs/Comets with this distinctly 70s color. Anyway, any leads on upholstery would be great. Thanks a bunch.

They had the exact blue cloth weave material for my 72 Sprint seats

Earl and I were at a junkyard looking at Mavericks and saw one with a good green front seat. I remember the seats because of the comments we both made about how atractive :D the color was.
I will be going back to the same yard on Saturday and strip the cover for you.

Sounds good. So are you sure it's the same BEAUTIFUL green I am talking about? They seem pretty hard to find those babys!! Again the code is HG if the tag is still on the car, but I bet you know what you are talking about because that color is unmistakable. Thanks a lot. Oh, how much would this little adventure cost me? No big rips or anything? Wow, suprised someone didn't take a knife to it to pursuade their husband/wife that "The Maverick really does need new upholstery!" :)

    Oh yeah......

I don't know if I made this clear, but I need both the complete bottom in one piece (whole thing) and the driver's back rest from the front bench (they look like the passenger's and driver's are separate, but if not, both are fine). The driver's seat is pretty much trashed, so I need to replace the whole front cover. Is it really hard to change the covers on these seats? I guess just be careful and take my time right. Any hints/tips I should know? Does it also by chance have the stock green radio delete plate? Mine is trashed also. Thanks so much for your time.

I was rained out today at the junkyard, so I will try sunday if it is nice.
The local pic-a part charges $5 for a seat cover.I will also look for the radio delete cover.

    Seat cover installation

The installation of a seat cover is not hard, you do need the hog rings and the special plyers. Since the seat cover is used, it has already been streched, making it easier to slip on. A trick that I use is to let it lay in the hot Georgia sun for a while and the seat cover becomes very flexible.

Did it stop raining on Sunday? I am not trying to rush you, I am just curious as to how it went, if it did.

Seat covers and Sunday junkyard tour

    Corbin

The Sunday weather forcast was rain in the AM, so Earl and I decided to do a "quick" replacement on a set of 302 heads and get out to the junkyard in the afternoon. While torquing the head bolts, 1 bolt snapped off at 60psi. After frantically running around on Sunday afternoon to find a new head gasket and more importantly, getting the broken bolt out that was way down in the block, we did not make it to the junkyard. I will try again this week.

    Tony

PS The broken bolt was removed, the engine assembled and it runs like new.
