Right now i have no stereo or sound system at all in my Mav, so i was wondering if u guys had any suggestion on what i should get. Im thinking about a subwoofer, Amp, Speakers, and a stereo with am/fm cd/mp3...but i dont know how many watts or what brand.
I would go with a Pioneer Head unit 50Wx4 with one Pioneer 5x7 in the dash, some 4" or 5 1/4" speakers in the kick panels, and some 6x9's in the rear. This should sound pretty good. I myself would not use subs, they seem cool for the first week and a half and then they just make your head hurt. The 6x9's in the rear should also provide you with adequate bass so subs shouldnt be needed. Whenever my mav gets around to the interior stage this is the setup that I am going to use, I myself really like the idea of a 5 speaker system. Its kind of like a home theater setup, but without the sub. Hope this will help you out.
I miss my sub when it is not on... The sound is hollow to me. I don't have a 'boom-boom' rattle the body panels type sub, just an 8" Bazooka on a 150w amp on low crossover. I can bridge it and adjust it so that it does nothing more than bother folks around me. Seems to me that moderation is the key. I have had Panasonic and Sony systems... Panasonic was cool, but seemed a little over-complex compared to Sony. That being said, my last system purchase was a while back, before Sony started making goofy looking speaker grilles and gaudy head units. If quality is still the same, they are good units, just gaudy looking. I have never had a Pioneer head unit, but I have their speakers in my current system and they are crap. Infinity Reference are good sounding, but my 5.25"s only lasted about 2 years before wearing out. To be fair, I really pushed them hard on a Sony 52x4 head unit. I think that if I sprung for another good set of speakers I would use either Infinity Kappa or a high-line Polk Audio. The key to speakers sounding good is to separate the frequencies. Bass blockers on small speakers and crossovers on mid-type speakers go a long way, not to mention using only low pass on subs. Just some ideas... Dave
So what u do you guys think about theses speakers.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-INFINITY-KAPPA-660w-3-WAY-CAR-AUDIO-6X9-INCH-SPEAKERS_W0QQitemZ180042463918QQihZ008QQcategoryZ38646QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and this stereo http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4891100 i havent really picked out a amp or sub. but thanx for the ideas. i was looking at these speakers but i dont know any more what do y'all think? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4541680
The Kappas are a great deal, assuming they aren't cheap speakers in a Kappa box or something like that. Like I said, my References were awesome sounding, just didn't hold up like I hoped. The Kappas are made of more durable materials, so one would assume they would last longer. Dual head unit: I have a Dual head unit in a work truck. It was cheap and I wanted to play CDs. Granted it is not the same unit, the unit I have is extrodinarily (sp?) cheap. I had to use a big word to get my point across! Mine skips when I run over a pebble in the road... Volume goes up when I desperatly want it to go DOWN... Volume goes down, when I want it to go UP... Letters worn off the controls very fast... Some buttons perform the neighboring buttons function often... Cheap... Sony 6x9s: Probably decent speakers. I can't stand where Sony, and now others, have gone with the overdesigned speaker grilles... but whatever. Grilles are supposed to protect speakers and keep them reasonably clean. How can a grille do that when I can almost reach my hand through it's openings? Polk, Kappa, and a few others are probably better choices, but for the money/quality balance, Sony has always done me right. Dave
IMO Kappas overrated you get something else much cheaper that sound just as good. Infact if you wanna go cheap, some stock speakers from some newer cars are made by top stereo companies.. you can get them out of the boneyards. Get a pioneer head unit you can't go wrong there... jensen IMO is poor quality... unless you got money for an alpine just go with the pionner. every single on of my cars have pioneer they have never done me wrong! i was also very impressed with panasonic as well... back in the 80's i would have never bought their stuff but though out the years they are the number one selling cordless phone and plasma TV. just make sure they are made in japan not mexico or some other 3rd world country. the only thing about them as someone said they are "little over-complex" then other ones. oh yeah go with one that does MP3z you can't go wrong there... no need for some ipod ready dealo when you can load a CD with 500 song and just play it right from the unit. for subs and if your a ebayer... try these guys... http://stores.ebay.com/trading-circuit-entertainment they are circuit city blowing out all the demo stuff. it is a hit and miss but you can get lucky! i just got these http://cgi.ebay.com/Kicker-Dual-12-Subwoofer-Enclosure-Package-DCVR122_W0QQitemZ160044858252QQihZ006QQcategoryZ32823QQcmdZViewItem i just pick it up for 62 bucks. they work perfect and you can walk out with shipping for about $100 bucks for a $400 enclosure! the thing is you have to read everything.... some of the speakers are blown and they just sell the box with the blow speakers in them.. so read everything... you can get one like i did you just need to watch for it and read the detials. if you do get it get an amp with a good RMS rating... MAX watts mean NOTHING! an amp at a rating of an RMS of 75 watt will out perform a 1000 watt amp @ 5% distortion. good luck let us know what you get
Well i went to a swap meet couple days ago, and found this beauty ... it has 1000 watts... I got it for $100.. brand new, they were liquidating there store.
I have had kenwood and pioneer and that same dual head unit in my car, the dual is in there right now because I like the looks. Some say its not that good of a unit because it is not so well known, but compared to the others Ive had I like the dual the best. IT actually puts out more power than the rests.
I have had a Pioneer DEH-P4700MP head unit in my car since July of 2005 and have been happy with it. I have also had Sony Xplode 6x9 speakers in the back and 6x6 speakers in the front. I am not happy with them. They still sound fine, but are visibly showing their age. The ones in the back are very faded and barely a year old... I had Polk Audio speakers before that and they were terrible, lasted 4 months before fadeing and deforming. I will never buy Polk stuff again. I am planning to get one of the new HD Radio head units for my '69 1/2 and probably Pioneer speakers. I was at Best Buys the other day and the Pioneer speakers sound way better to me then the Sony's. I should have bought them in the first place last year...
Mine sounds good but i have no idea whats it is.I made it out of leftover and new parts. One of my favorite memories was when 2 of my friends came over in their 6,000 and 10,000 watt systems Then got blown away by my Line 6 spyder II Combo 30-watt amp:evilsmile
I just bought this 73' Maverick Coupe and it has a Rampage stereo AM/FM cd player and a couple of kenwood speakers that look pretty new in the back, but there are no speakers in the front, I was just wondering if kenwood is decent audio because I am a Panasonic/Sony fan myself
The sound system in the Maverick consists of three inch duals with two chamber Flowmasters. As far as stereos go though. For speakers and amps, I think Kicker has the best products. I have a Solobaric 10" in my pickup that puts out like a twelve even though I'm only feeding it about 100w. I used to run a single twelve from their comp line in a bandpass box running around 300w to it and it would crush your skull when you cranked it. With that one I ran Kicker Impulse 5 1/4 seperates for front stage with the amp I now use for my ten and the clarity was incredible even with all that bass. This was in a little D-50 pickup with the box in the bed. I cut through the bed and the cab, used an innertube to seal between the two and sealed the box to the front of the bed. It rocked.
