    Alright, here's the scoop...Have a '71 Maverick 2-door, 200, automatic. 109,000 original miles. In good shape.

I am having motor problems. Acts as if the head gasket is blown (not much power, that great helicopter sound, etc), yet I have no water in the oil pan.

I can't drive it the way it is and am considering selling it. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a valve. Take a compression check on the engine, see which cylinders are bad, and go from there. Don't sell the car for a head gasket or valve job. Even if it needs a new engine, if the car is good, it is well worth the effort to fix it and use it. They ain't making any more of them, and they are getting more valuable every day. I wouldn't sell mine, and I had to completely restore it. Good luck, and let us know how it come out.

Thanks Earl... I really appreciate the words of encouragement. I will run a test and see what we are looking at. Your right, I think I could rebuild it for not much money (if I had too).

It's nice to have this site and input available!
    I'll let ya' know.

Ryan...nice '73! Is that the same color paint and style that it originally came with? Also, what wheels are those? I've been trying to decide if I want to stay with the original hubcaps or put something else on. Haven't found anything I liked, but those are sweet!

Lets see... worst case senerio, bad engine $600 once vs $600 a MONTH for 4 years for a less than suitable replacement. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Unfortunatley DC I Haven't driven my Mav much since I got it, been too busy restoring it I hope to have it on the road soon when I do you won't be able to miss it, it's white, with red spots showing through parts of the primer, and a Blue Hood, and Trunk Lid, (the previous owner swapped them from his 73 and they are spray painted blue which unfortunatley ruined the primer when it rained so now it looks like crap :(, once I get it painted it'll be Jet Black, with Red Racing Stripe and Silver Trim :). The interior of the car is cherry red all but the dash which is black and I have a black tail light panel (all Grabbers did I believe). I do however frequent the AutoZone on Auburn Bl near Manzanita, and the Kragen over on Aubrun and Garfield. If you see a Beigh Club Wagon with a liftgate in the parking lot thats me :).

I think you should get rid of it--those cars are garbage, you don't want one.

I'll give you my address, drop it on by, I will take it off your hands for free.:D
