Carroll Shelby's own tuning company Shelby American has announced the return of the GT350 model, debuting it at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale 45 years after the original GT350 was released.

Based on the new 2011 Mustang GT[IMG], the GT350 gets a Ford Racing supercharged mated to the stock car's 5.0-liter V8 to make roughly 500-hp – which shouldn't be hard considering the stock motor already makes 412-hp. The engine also gets some bling with Blue Shelby GT350 valve covers and billet caps.

In addition, the GT350 conversion includes a complete aero kit with a dual central-exit exhaust system, 19-inch Cragar wheels, Goodyear tires and a Baer six-piston front brake setup up front. Several changes have been made to the suspension with Ford Racing springs, struts, sway bars[IMG] and adjustable camber/caster plates.

"In 1964, Ford Motor Company asked Shelby American to turn their secretary's car into a race winner to help them sell Mustangs," said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. "Our Shelby GT350 ruled its class at the track and was feared by GM and Chrysler owners on the street. Enthusiasts have anticipated the GT350's return since it went out of production in 1970. Now my band of hot rodders has created a car worthy of the name."

All GT350 conversions are performed at Shelby American's facility in Las Vegas for a price of $33,995 (plus the cost of the car). Yikes!

I like it for the most part, I'm just not fond of the center exhaust. I bet it'd be a blast to drive with 500hp.

I am surprised that Shelby will do anything for Ford after they stole the "Cobra" trademark from him. That was the worst thing they could have done to this legendary car maker. Maybe that is why it costs so much now instead of the $1000 dollars you paid extra in "the good old days".

I agree. They ruined the back end. It lost it's "Fordness" with the '10 model.

I may just be cheap but I don't see how the car is worth nowhere near that much. Figure $28000 for a new mustang and $34000 for the conversion and you have a $60000 car.

Well, everyone already has their favorite generations of Mustang, but c'mon! how many of us actually "hate" the styles that don't catch our eye?....

My favorite is the 67-68 Fastbacks, with the 69-70's FBs a close second.....67-68 coupes are nice too, but I'm defuinately not crazy about the 69-70 coupes.....but would I kick one out of my garage? No.

Just like the 71-73's weren't my thing, they're ok, I like 'em, I'd own and drive one, but they're just too boxy for my taste.

I used to hate Mustang II's, and still dislike the coupes, but the fastbacks kind of grew on me, once you got rid of the 13 inch wheels and way too 70's Farrah Fawcett graphics and flares on the Cobra II's. I now own a M-II project, and it's inspiring me.....still not my favorite, but with a little of my own style added....it'll be cool.

I liked the entire Fox body style, but thought they got too much plastic air dams and ground effects on the 87-90 GTs.

The SN95s were cool..... the bubble tops eliminating FBs and coupes....the looks were kind of general, not one of Ford's best, but they got the point across, and looked good doing it.

I didn't mind the retro styling of the 05's, mainly because I think they pulled it off so well.

....and now, that the new 2010's are out, I can sincerely say I much prefer the 05-09 body style over the new one.

I'm not going to bash the '10 though......I'm thankful they're still making Mustangs and they're still bad-a$$, even if I can't afford one, or that a particular generation's styling doesn't happen to be my style.

Long live the wild horses! :thumbs2:

Dual drivers side exhaust like a NASCAR...flat mufflers...less ground effects...zero options that don't make it faster(no leather please)...factory rollcage...magnesium wheels...console-less Hurst shifter...the heaviest of duty, fully adjustable suspension...plexiglass windows...extensive fiberglass body panels...

I like the rear tail lights at least.
