I need a throttle cable for my 72 Maverick
My mechanic said he was at a standstill and cant find one.
The nearest junk yard with a maverick in it is 75 miles and no guarenties there is a useable cable (did the sixes and V8 use the same cable?) these cars have been picked over.
    Thanks,
    Bill Higgins

The 6cyl and the 8cyl use different cables. Which one do you need? I have a spare cable for a 6cyl if it will help.

This is a real bummer to find, most V8 Mav's are already picked clean. Sometimes ebay has one and maybe someone here would part with one, I have used the six cyl. one on the V8's but you must put a loop in it to make it work. Does not hurt anything other than it looks a bit out of place compared to the shorter V8 ones. Can't remember to well these days but seems I got one off a Fairmont or Granada that worked??????? Did also shorten a six cyl one up to match the V8 one time but is a pain to do(cut the outside sleeve and then put new pedal ball on shortened inner cable). Maybe talk to a cycle dealer to see if they can make one up or know someone who can?

There is also a difference on how they hook to the pedal. Either they have an "eye" which a pin slides through, or they have a ball which slides into a forked end, on the end of the pedal arm, You can use a 6cyl cable on a V8 but you cant use V8 cable on the 6cyl. If you get one from a junkyard, its best to get the pedal assembly too if your not sure which one you have. Summit sells a universal type cable that will work fine. You cut it to fit your application. Only problem is it dosent have the built in return spring so you must add an external one.

Mine is a V8, I located a I6 maverick a few towns away that still has the throtle cable and peddal in it, if I cant find a V8 one I will use it for the time being (just hate to do things 1/2 a**)
    Thanks,

If you decide that you want to go aftermarket here is what I am using....the cable is made by Lokar and the bracket is made by CSI.
