Here in Georgia, The dmv does not require titles on older cars. The problem is that both my mavericks are titleless. They will NOT reissue titles. I really want titles forthe purpose of possibly moving to a state that requires a title or just for the added value to my all factory 73'. Possible solution?: Sell the car to someone(you know and trust) in a state that reissues titles( I think Alabama). Have that person title it, and sell it back. Has anyone ever done this? Mark (wild scheme) B.
What kind of whacked up state is that???!!! I think the solution would be to move to a more reasonable state. I tend to be proud of my ownership, and find a problem when someone tells me that I cannot have the very proof of my ownership. If John Joe goes to your house tonight and steals your maverick, gets it to his house, and then re keys it, what is there to say it is not his mav eh?? If they don't re issue titles for old cars, then even if you register it out of state, then re register it down here, there may be a chance that they say, ok thanks, not title needed. Good luck, sorry I couldn't help more. Let us know what happens. Contact your local state representitive and send him a letter.
Sales are done by a "bil of sale" The cars are given registration papers. The Vin# in the DMV's system shows ownership. BUT Who is to say that the bill of sale was not fraudulent? Your right! I think it's nuts!
lol Its not nuts to ppl who live here think about it ... you can buy any car (over so many years old) and not have to worry about a title ... and still be able to get tags and a regestration ... There are places mark that can get you a clean title that is exepted in all 50 states ... check the net ... When i moved from Ga to indiana several years ago i had no problem getting a tag for my galaxie ... but i dont know what other states say ...
Car title Only in the home state of Jimmy Carter. Best Pres. that Panama ever had. At least now you can say you have the second worst Pres this country has ever had. Andersonville Prison is another nice legacy to Georgia.
Another legal solution is to go through a title service and have a new title made. There are several companies that do that advertised in Hemming's. This is a common problem with very old cars that are found in barns, etc. that get restored. Last time I inquired about it, it averaged $100 to have this done.
